Resistance Band Types & Applications — A Buyer's Technical Guide

Product Knowledge · Technical Comparison · Better Sports

Resistance bands are one of the most versatile and fastest-growing categories in fitness equipment. However, not all bands serve the same purpose. This guide explains the four main types we manufacture at Better Sports, their technical characteristics, and which markets and user groups they best serve.

Quick Comparison

Type Material Typical Resistance Best For Price Tier
Latex Loop Bands Natural latex 5–80 lbs Strength training, CrossFit $
Fabric Hip Bands Polyester + latex inner 15–120 lbs Glute activation, Pilates $$
Tube Sets with Handles Latex / TPE tubes 10–50 lbs per tube Home gyms, physical therapy $$
Therapy / Rehab Bands Latex-free TPE Light to medium Rehabilitation, seniors $$

Latex Loop Bands (Mini Bands)

The classic resistance band format. These flat loops are typically 12 inches in circumference and 2–3 inches wide. They are color-coded by resistance level and sold in sets of 3–5.

Technical notes: We use Malaysian natural latex with a minimum tensile strength of 18 MPa. Bands are molded in continuous loops to eliminate weak seams. Standard thickness ranges from 0.35 mm (light) to 1.1 mm (extra heavy).

Markets: Amazon FBA sellers, discount retailers, gym chains, and CrossFit box owners.

Fabric Hip Bands

Fabric bands have surged in popularity due to their comfort and non-slip properties. Unlike latex loops, they do not roll up on the thighs during squats or hip thrusts. Our fabric bands feature a soft-touch polyester outer layer with an inner latex strip for elasticity.

Technical notes: Fabric width: 3–4 inches. Resistance calibrated by inner latex gauge and fabric weave density. All bands include anti-slip silicone strips on the inner surface. Optional fabric printing supports full-color sublimation.

Markets: Boutique fitness studios, Instagram/DTC brands, and women-focused fitness retailers.

Tube Sets with Handles / Ankle Straps

These are the most versatile resistance systems, consisting of detachable latex tubes with foam handles, door anchors, and ankle straps. Users can combine multiple tubes to increase resistance.

Technical notes: Tubes are extruded from layered latex with a minimum snap resistance of 300% elongation. Handles use ABS cores with non-slip foam grips. Carabiner clips are zinc-alloy rated to 100 kg.

Markets: Home fitness kits, physical therapy clinics, hotel gyms, and corporate wellness programs.

Therapy / Rehabilitation Bands

Designed for controlled, low-resistance movement. These are typically flat strips (not loops) sold by the roll or in pre-cut lengths. We offer a latex-free TPE version for users with latex allergies.

Technical notes: Thickness: 0.15 mm (yellow/light) to 0.45 mm (black/extra heavy). Tensile strength calibrated for safe progressive rehab. Rolls are 25 yards or 50 yards.

Markets: Hospitals, physiotherapy chains, senior-care facilities, and sports-medicine distributors.
